These words are not my own and I take no credit for them. I share them here as a resource for anyone seeking personal growth or as source material for their own creative expansion of the collective.
Psychic structure evolves through the interaction of internal and external worlds.
Benjamin, 1995, p. 121
If oneness is union of the opposites, the essence of twoness is conflict. Partnerships are not problem-free entities. No couple arrives at a final point where everything is fixed and nothing will ever change again. All relationships go through difficult periods when old patterns of behavior are challenged, and new ones struggle to be born. These ordeals can be lengthy and painful. They are symptoms of something new becoming conscious. It is wise to expect and tolerate phases such as this while you wait for the new birth instead of rushing to premature closure.
Carotenuto, 2015, p. 51
We become ourselves through interactions with others, and in this experience, we find the face of others within ourselves.
Susan E Schwartz, The Absent Father Effect on Daughters: Father Desire, Father Wounds, Routledge, New York, NY, 2021, p. 84
When a relationship is dysfunctional, it is because both partners have shadows. One partner might have such low self-esteem that it accepts abusive behavior from the other. One might have addictions that the other enables. Mature souls do not remain in destructive, codependent relationships lor long. They either change them or leave them. There is no easy way out of your suffering, and as much as you might want to blame your partner for it, it is ultimately caused by your ignorance of your shadow and your Self.
